You require a speak wrench.
No symptoms....They don"t bother me so i don"t bother them.Wonder how numerous high usage xterra"s room out there that never have had the T"Chain travel guide serviced and are ok?
06 below with 134k, Im starting to worry, ns think i deserve to hear it starting, im wondering exactly how much much longer I have, likewise whast the worst case senario? and will the noise acquire really poor first?
when the guide material wears the end the chain will certainly ride ~ above the stole guidepost make a high pitched whine. When it starts to whine you should have sufficient money saved to perform the job.start saving now......this is no a cheap job. And also don"t forget there are organization bulletins regarding interior sheathe plate seals needing to it is in replaced. And replacing the water pump.

My initial timing chain began the supercharger whine in ~ 98,000 miles. I had the extended 100,000 mile warranty. Can you believe it?! ns NEVER get that lucky. I am now at 180,000 miles and beginning to become mindful that I should start setting money back. I always turn my own wrenches, and also have replaced countless timing chain sets on tiny block Chevy"s which is no that hard. But, this job looks to it is in a significant PITA.Can anyone share what the cost is to have actually the time chain job done (including the usual components like water pump, etc)? exactly how much for a Nissan dealer, and then if anyone has a price for an live independence shop.....thanks guys.
2007 Solar Yellow Xterra S / original owner / 250,000+ mile / lots of mods because that storm chasing / Best automobile we have ever before owned
Useful details there, thank you because that the post Chris. My neighborhood Nissan dealer quoted me approx $1700-1900 consisting of labor and also two days about a year earlier for main and secondary chains. I believe that had the water pump also. In mine head i figured for $2500-$3000 so ns was happy to hear that. Ago in 2008-ish as soon as this an initial came around I mental dealership number on society frontier going because that over $3500 for out of warranty fixes.
On a 2005/6 rig the age of ALL the hoses must be considered.I readjusted all my hoses at the time of the time chain replacements.also changed spark plugs because everything was open and also there to be room.I understand it"s expensive( I had it done twice) but try and conserve for all the extra consumables that room aged and also worn.

Is the timing chain concern year specific? Or is that something that all X"s will face due to mileage alone?

It"s probably going to be an issue any type of high mileage automobile faces even if it is it be a chain or a belt. Interference engines usually need such maintenance around the 100k mile mark. Every vehicle I"ve owned chain or belt has actually been replaced (belt/chain, tensioners, guides, seals, pumps, hoses, etc.)between 90-100k whether essential or not. I try to conserve up enough time and money to review the hell out of it. Also, when purchasing a high mileage auto or draw close high purpose of use I try to swap all fluids, filters, plugs (spark plugs and drain plugs/washers) if for no other reason to create a an excellent baseline because that future maintain reference and also diagnostics. I would recommend it simply to ensure that the engine runs forever. Like many Japanese motors they will certainly run forever v the suitable preventive maintain schedule. This is one of the huge ones that may or may not it is in a preventive measure. Pure worst case scenario is the time F"s up and also you sling a rod and the Xterra is currently useless yet looks nice in the driveway. My believed is no matter the price or pain to DIY or have actually a shop handle it"s worth the investment over buying/installing a new motor in addition to just gift a an excellent practice. Not to cite an opportunity to discover something new, hone old skills, or teach the soon to be cripple generation come come... I"m only 28 and also it suck to speak that but we all understand it"s true... It s okay I"ll conserve that discussion for an additional day... And I"ll step down from mine soap box.
