You are watching: Dakota johnson in 21 jump street
Here"s who Dakota Johnson played in 21 Jump Street, and if she"ll be part of the upcoming spinoff movie. The original series of 21 Jump Street followed a unit of youthful-looking cops who went undercover in schools or colleges to suss out any illegal activity. The series was a breakthrough for actors like Johnny Depp and Richard Grieco, whose character Booker proved popular enough to earn his own short-lived spinoff. 21 Jump Street ran for five seasons in total, before receiving a movie adaptation in 2012.
While the 21 Jump Street remake is technically canon with the original show, which includes cameos from Depp or Holly Robinson Peete as their characters, it features a very different tone. The movie version featured the unlikely but inspired pairing of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as two mismatched partners recruited for the titular unit, who have to find the source of a new drug in a high school while essentially reliving their awkward teen years.

21 Jump Street was a surprise critical and commercial hit, and most of the cast and crew soon returned for sequel 22 Jump Street, which was arguably even better received. The original movie also featured notable early performances from future names like Brie Larson, Dave Franco and Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Of Grey). The latter plays Fugazy, another undercover detective who is partnered with Rye Rye"s character Jr. Jr.
Dakota Johnson doesn"t get much to do over in 21 Jump Street, but Fugazy and Jr. Jr. act as kind of rivals to Schmidt and Jenko. They"re definitely more competent at their jobs, throwing shade at the bumbling duo when they close their third high school operation and pointing out the drug Schmidt and Jenko are supposed to be stopping - dubbed "HFS" - has already spread to other schools. Fugazy and Jenko also appear to have a thing for one another, and they spontaneously make out in the final scene when Schmidt and Jenko have cracked the case.

Neither Dakota Johnson nor Rye Rye returned following 21 Jump Street, and it currently doesn"t appear they will be back for the planned spinoff Jump Street: Now For Her Pleasure either. Talk of a female-led spinoff began shortly after the second movie"s release, and it currently appears Zendaya and Tiffany Haddish will lead the movie. Of course, there"s nothing to say Johnson couldn"t reappear in the movie since little has been revealed about the story or if any familiar characters will return. Progress on the spinoff has been somewhat slow, however, and no director has been announced.
